Shinty is a stick-and-ball game resembling
hurling, popular in the Scottish Highlands.
It is played between teams of 12 players
each, on a field 132-183m (144-200yards)
long, and 64-91m (70-99yards) wide. A curved
stick (caman) is used to propel a
leather-covered cork and worsted ball into
the opposing team's goal (hail).
